About Your Child Restraint Fitter

Who am I? I am Tamarin, a mum to 4 young children, a business owner and I also have a strong passion for child restraints.

My car seat fixation started many years ago when I was a nanny, even in my pre-children days I noticed daily how many young children were in incorrectly installed, misused and even expired car seats.

Things didn't really start until I had my first child in 2008. As a new parent there are so many choices, how do you know you are making the right decision? I trusted the advice I was given by the shop assistant, handed over my money and away we went. I wanted the best of the best for my daughter. Having not installed a car seat for several years I sought a professional restraint fitter to fit the car seat.

Several months later I discovered that the car seat I had been using was not suitable for a newborn, not only that it was also installed incorrectly. I had unknowingly put my precious newborn at risk.

I found an online forum filled with people who were just as passionate (if not more so) than I was. I decided that one day I wanted to become a restraint fitter.

I started helping friends install their car seats and offering advice to people I met in the car seat aisles of my local baby shop which I used to frequent. It became a joke amongst family and friends that I was the car seat police, if something wasn't right they sure knew about it seconds later.

Correct installation and everyday use both matter. The NSW Government recommends having child car seats fitted by an authorised restraint fitter or at an authorised fitting station. My aim is to install each restraint securely and help parents and carers understand how to use it with confidence.

"Best car installer out there! The car seat was installed perfectly, the tightest I have seen. Not only was it installed perfectly but I was also taught for next time!! Will definitely recommend."
Madeline - West Pennant Hills
"Tam installed my new nephew's carseat and during the process had to relocate my older nephew's seat from the passenger to driver's side and installed both seats brilliantly. She took the time, care and dedication as if she was installing her own children's car seats. She did a brilliant job and I would highly recommend her to anyone."
Julia - Kellyville Ridge
"I watched Tamarin fitting a car seat, and saw the entire car shake when she was testing how tight the seat was fitted. The Seat did not wiggle around.. instead the car shook !!!! After 6 kids and about 20 car seats fitted in my car, i finally saw that i have never fitted my car seats correctly! If anyone knows anything about child car seats, this lady is the one !! Go and see Tam !"
Mel - Kellyville
"AMAZING SERVICE. At the 11th hour Tam came to my house and installed our newest addition's seat. That night we went to hospital knowing his first trip home the next day was going to be super safe. Since then Tam has installed another 2 seats to my car. Love having peace of mind. There is no compromise on the safety of your kids."
Leah - Cherrybrook
"Tamarin came to my home with 5 minutes notice, late at night and installed 3 car seats! I am completely impressed..my seats are perfect and I never realised before that I had been installing them wrong for years! I will always recommend and use this business. Very very happy and thankful. Worth every dollar."
Heather - Dural
"Tamarin installed 2 convertible car seats for me, I can't give her enough stars! She is a true professional when it comes to knowledge of car safety for kids, was punctual and had the job done quickly and with no problems - for a great price too. Can't recommend highly enough"
Lauren - Baulkham Hills
"The best car seat installs in the area! Tamarin is my go to lady for everything to do with car seats. I have gone to Tamarin a few times now, and am so pleased with the car seat once she's through with it. Best advice, best installs and most importantly, like most parents, she is SO concerned with car seat safety. I am so happy I found you Tamarin!"

NSW Child Restraint Laws and Safety

In NSW, children aged under 7 must use an approved child restraint that is suitable for their age and size. Approved restraints must meet Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1754.

Current NSW requirements include:

Source: NSW Government child car seat guidance. Reviewed 30 July 2026. This summary is general information; always follow current government guidance and the restraint manufacturer's instructions.

Did you know car seats expire?

Did you know car seats expire? Child restraint manufacturers do not recommend the use of restraints that are over 10 years old. Why? Because over time the materials degrade which could impair a restraint's ability to perform in an accident. They also will not contain all the safety features of the latest Australian Standard.

Should I buy a second hand child restraint?

A child restraint cannot be checked visually. It's very important that you know its history (i.e. no accidents).

You should only consider child restraints that are less than 10 years old from the date of manufacture and comply with Australian Standard 1754.

As a general rule only use a second hand child restraint from someone you know and trust. After all your most precious cargo is riding inside.
